Minnesota Wrap Up
So we got back from Minnesota on Monday about 3am, exhausted but extremely happy to be home. I've been meaning to write a little about how the trip went, so here we go:
We originally planned to leave Monday morning, but Jackie and I were so excited and wound up at 2am, we decided to forgo sleep and leave. In retrospect, if we had just slept we could have saved ourselves a lot of headache.
On the way to the kennel to drop off the dogs around 2am, I got hit by a trunk driver that swerved into my lane. The damage isn't bad, and it's on our old car. But it's still very noticeable and we're still paying on that thing so it really pisses me off. I had to literally chase the guy down to get him to pull over, which he finally did in the parking lot of a Jack in the Box.
As he stumbled out, he tried to apologize stammeringly and tried to shake my hand. I asked him for his insurance not once, but twice before getting the card in my hand. He tried to get me to not report it to his insurance and just get an estimate and call him later. Yeah huh. After an argument about him being drunk and trying to shake me, I started to call the police to report the accident. Of course he jumped back into his truck and took off. I still have his insurance card, which is no good since the policy was canceled. Way to go life.
I've never been in a real accident like this before. I slightly rear ended a person once, scratching paint, and was backed into at a gas station, but never actually hit on the road. I'm still trying to get a hold of the hit and run detective that was supposed to call me last week, but I really have my doubts about getting any satisfaction at this point. $1000 deductible on our insurance versus dealing with a dent and some scratched paint. Hmmm.
Anyway, the trip itself went according to plan. We stayed up a total of 30 hours or so, catching some sleep when we felt well enough to switch off. Spent a lot of time navigating family politics, eating at the restaurants that they only have there, and seeing how Duluth has no clue how to run a city anymore. It wasn't all bad though: the food is still good and I got to see my dad. Also, Jackie has had her homesickness fixed for another year or two.
The drive back was more exhausting. My home skillet Chris had decided he had enough of his job and Duluth and wants to try to make a clean start down here. So we rented a truck and packed up his stuff and cats and migrated his ass down to the DFW. The truck had no cruise control, no reclining seats and was governed at 75mph. I'll let that speak volumes for itself. However, we survived and got the truck returned today. Chris is settling in and the animals are all getting used to each other now.
I need to take a moment here and point out that we now have 8 animals in our house. Eight. Ocho. Hachi. We're absolutely insane I know, but hey, we don't have kids and cats are pretty quiet most of the time. Dogs aren't, but there's only two of them.
So I'm really excited about having my best bud down here enjoying the lovely Texas heat and getting fat on the fantastic food. The last week has been pretty stressful, but we have a lot of fun times ahead.
Here's to the triumvirate of awesomeness.
